7.1 A divisional letter had been forwarded to all K - 8 school administrators explaining the PTSD initiative with regard to LwICT implementation. Schools were encouraged to use this resource for school newsletters, however it was optional. A number of implementation team members have made presentations to Parent Advisoy Councils/Home and School Associations. A number of schools have been including ICT related readings/topics... in their monthly newsletter and parents have been appreciative of this information.
7.2 We have not collected formal data regarding parental feedback on classroom implementation/ePEARL/reporting on LwICT. Informally, parents have been pleased to see evidence of their child's use of technology and its place in the inquiry based model. Conservatively, 40 - 45% of our affected schools have formally reported to parents on their child's progress. ePEARL use is growing as people become more familiar with this resource, and recognize its significance as a communication tool to be used during our tri-conference model. There is certainly an increasing awareness of the integration of technology in their child's learning, and parents are becoming more knowledgable of it as a literacy foundation skill, as opposed as to simply learning ICT skills.
7.3 Communication needs to be continual, and presented in small bite sized chunks. ePEARL is an excellent mode of communicating the essence of the LwICT initiative. When parents see the process of goal setting, reflection, peer sharing... the message of Literacy with ICT as opposed to ICT literacy is reinforced.
