  • Both middle and early years have literacy initiatives which will connect with the LwICT initiative. Divisional ICT team has been instrumental in keeping the equipment etc up to date. The early dismissal initiative in ESD has helped with schools having time to introduce this to the teachers.

  • LwICT has to be part of the divisional strategic plan in order for priorities and funding to become available. Also needs to be part of the ICT strategic plan and eventually all school plans.

  • There's a big push towards increasing literacy in the middle years.
  • We have a teacher at McIsaac school who's given class time to mentor some of the less tech-literate teachers within the school.

This has become a priority for our division and the result is that it is linked to all initiatives.

As it is infused in all classrooms, it should also be infused in all school/division plans.

The transition from EY & MY to SY is weak. The philosophy at EY & MY needs to continue into SY. Content area curriculums in all areas should be examined and adapted for LwICT.

Our ICT implementation team is connecting with our Assessment for Learning committee. These two initiatives are intertwined and this is proving to be an effective way of planning our ICT assessment strategy.

Our LwICT plan is tied in directly with our division Technology Integration Plan (TIP). Thus, technology integration is a priority item for the division, and also a part of the school division's strategic plan. Our suggestion is that division's incorporate LwICT into their divisional strategic plans.

- It is recognized that connections are critical and essential. Moving from EY to MY, PD training for teachers has created a community of learners joined by the LwICT continuum. We have not fully developed these connections further.

  • We are connecting LwICT with our reporting periods in middle years, and soon in early years. We are connecting LwICT with our grades 6-8 Computer Shops classes.

  • We should make sure that we make our cases and needs known to senior admin and to school leaders, otherwise LwICT does not have a chance of being implemented well.
  • Connection with a Division's technology committee is essential, as well as with any teacher who uses computers within their classroom's daily work. ----

Start at the top: inform principals and have them be involved with and responsible for implementation in their schools.
LwICT team members given leave time to support peers in implementation LwICT in their classrooms.

MY to SY: created a B.A.T.L. (Blended Approach to Teaching and Learning) project where the administrators are inserviced on various teaching and learning styles and ways to implement these in their school's classrooms. As the skills and expectations of the students change, so too must the teacher's presentation and this program is addressing that.

The structure of the continuum makes it a natural growth from EY through to SY. Skills, etc. that are learned in EY naturally become more complex as students move through the continuum.
